The University offers courses in (i) History of Art, (ii) Conservation & Restoration of Works of Art and (iii) Museology leading to the award of MA. and Ph.D. Degrees. It also awards eight Merit Scholarships each @ Rs.40,000/- per annum and 08 Merit-cum-Means Scholarships each @ Rs.12,000/- per annum. Applications in prescribed form ( to be downloaded) are invited from eligible candidates for admission to M.A. and Ph.D. courses for the academic session starting in August, 2010, as per the following eligibility criteria : ·M.A.

A Graduate Degree in any of the following subjects -Chemistry/Physics/Geology/Botany/Zoology/ Computer Science//Fine Arts/ History/ History of Art/Architecture / Archaeology/Museology/Designing or a Diploma recognized as equivalent to graduate degree in any of these fields. ·M.A. (Museology) : Seats-15. Any person holding a Master Degree in Museology from this Institute or Master Degree in Museology/ History/ Ancient Indian History & Archaeology or its equivalent from a recognized University/deemed University. Desirable Qualifications for both M.A. & Ph.D. courses : Knowledge of one classical/ foreign language such as Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Persian, Arabic, Greek, Latin, German, French, Italian, etc. NB: i)
Good academic record
with 50% & above marks at Graduate level is essential for admission to M.A. courses and 55% & above marks at Post-graduate level for admission to Ph.D. courses. Those
appearing in their last semester/exam of Graduation may also apply for
M.A.courses provided they produce the result of having passed their
Graduation with requisite percentage by 31-7-2010. ii)
Candidates seeking admission to M.A. courses, will have to pass a written test
followed by an interview.
Written Test will be held in
the National Museum Institute, National Museum. Janpath, New Delhi.
Attested photocopies of certificates/ degrees and a passport size
photograph may be sent with the application form. iii)
For admission to Ph. D. courses, in-service
personnel working with Central Government/ State Government/
Autonomous organization/ Universities funded by Central or
State Government/ NGOs with at least 5 years’ regular
service, having the above required qualification, will also be
eligible to apply and will be given preference. iv)
All candidates for Ph.D. courses will be
required to appear for written test of one hour’s duration followed by
their presentation on the
topic of their research work before the Research Development Committee.
Dates of written test and presentation may be noted as mentioned in the
end of this notice. v)
Relaxation and reservation in percentage and
seats for the notified categories will be available as per
Govt. of India orders. vi)
No separate call letters for attending written
tests/ interview/ presentation will
be sent to the candidates seeking admissions to M.A. and Ph.D. courses.
All candidates who would have sent their applications for M.A. courses by
30-06-2010 and for Ph.D. courses by 31-7-2010 may appear for the written
tests followed by interviews on the scheduled date subject to eligibility.
Candidates are advised to also bring a photocopy of their
application form at the time of written test/interview. vii)
There is no fee for applying for M.A. and
Ph.D. courses. viii)
Applicants may fully satisfy themselves that
they are fulfilling the requisite qualifications as prescribed.
However, if any shortfall or deviation is noticed at the time of
interview/presentation or at any stage,
the candidature/ admission will be summarily rejected for admission
under reference. ix)
Syllabus of written examination (M.A. courses)
: Candidates seeking
admission in M.A. (History of Art), M.A. (Conservation) and M.A.
(Museology) course will undergo a written test of 1 ½ hours in respective
subject.
History of Art : a.
The
Indus Valley Civilization: art and architecture b.
Early
Indian art during the period of the Mauryas, Shungas, Satavahanas,
Kushanas, Guptas, Vakatakas: stupa and early temple
architecture, sculpture and painting traditions c.
Medieval art under the major dynasties such as Western Chalukyas,
Rashtrakutas, Pallavas, Cholas, Hoysalas, Pratiharas, Parmaras, Chandellas,
and Pala-Senas: Temple traditions: Nagara, Dravida, and Vesara d.
High
Medieval art and architecture of the Sultanate and Mughal periods.
Miniature paintings: Mughal and Rajasthani schools. e.
Modern
and Contemporary Indian Art: major art movements and artists Conservation : a) General knowledge about the Cultural Heritage b)
Drawing
skills of the applicant c)
Knowledge
of basic science specially Chemistry d)
Observation

Writing
skills Museology :
their multiform character and purpose and familiarizes the students with the meaning and features of Museums, Museology and Museography. The entrance exam. for museology is aimed at analyzing the aptitude for museum profession along with the understanding of a museum’s role in the society. Exposure to various museums and a perception on the social, cultural and educational role of a museum will be expected. Interest in cultural studies and awareness of heritage will be looked at. Basic
understanding of Museology as a discipline as
different from other related fields will be sought.. The candidate
should be able to justify one’s reason for opting for the course. *
