The first ever Community Museum at Gya, Sasoma (Leh, Ladakh) was inaugurated by the Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson. He was joined by Prof. (Dr) Manvi Seth, Dean, NMI and HoD, Department of Museology, NMI, Sh. Shrikant Balasaheb Suse Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC, Ladakh, Shri Stanzin Chospel, Executive Councillor, Shri Dr Surinder K. Mehta, VC, Ladakh University and Brigadier Yogesh Sharma.
The Community Museum has been set up in joint collaboration between National Museum Institute, New Delhi, Women Alliance, Sasoma and Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh.
One of the first Community Museums in india, it is jointly curated by the Department of Museology, NMI and Women Alliance, Gya Sasoma. The entire collection of the museum at Gya Sasoma is donated by the villagers and the house in which museum is set up also belongs to the villagers.
The Community Museum at Gya Sasoma is result of long ongoing documentation exercise carried out to systematically record the heritage of the Ladakh.
Department of Museology, National Museum Institute, along with carrying out the documentation of ICH has been conducting numberous workshops and capacity building programs in order to create an awareness on the intangible and tangible cultural heritage. |
