National Seminar on the ‘Historical and Cultural Legacy of Ladakh’

A one day national seminar was organised on 22nd December, 2021 by the National Museum Institute on the ‘Historical and Cultural legacy of Ladakh’ as part of the content creation exercise for the upcoming museum on the ‘Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh’ at the A2 Barrack, Red Fort. The museum is being conceptualised and designed so as to showcase the history, culture and heritage of the Union territories of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The aim is to showcase the contribution of the region and its people in various fields of culture, religion, language, art, architecture and so on. The seminar was chaired by Shri Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, Vice Chancellor, National Museum Institute, DG, National Museum and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Culture. Eminent Scholars from all parts of Ladakh had gathered to present papers and on topics like the Petroglyphs, archaeology, monasteries as living museums, ancient literature and manuscripts and so on. Keynote at the seminar was given by Former Ambassador, Shri Phunchok Stobdanji. It is for the first time that such enriching and focused deliberations on the cultural heritage of Ladakh happened in Delhi.
